Great American Cleanup in Bartow

Area cleanups are held annually in April (Keep Georgia Beautiful Month) throughout Bartow County to celebrate the Great American Cleanup campaign.

The Great American Cleanup is a nationwide effort to clean up communities across the country. All over America, the over 500 Keep America Beautiful affiliates join with their national and state programs to clean up, recycle, plant trees and flowers, remove graffiti, and beautify beaches, parks, playgrounds and neighborhoods. It is the nation’s largest community improvement program. In 2009, more than 3 million volunteers in 32,000 communities took part in the Great American Cleanup, collecting 64 million pounds of litter and debris, much of which was recycled. A full list of 2009 results can be found online at www.kab.org/GAC_20009Results. National and State Sponsors support the work of volunteers in our area cleanups, and local sponsors donate time, money, and materials to the cause, helping with refreshments, door prizes, and t-shirts. The following communities sponsor local Great American Cleanup events:

I Want To Get Involved!

What Do I Do? Where Do I Call?

Keep Bartow Beautiful organizes a number of large events in areas of the community that need the most help. You, or your group, can join one of these “critical need” events by calling Sheri Henshaw.   All events are from 9 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted.  To volunteer, call site to pre-register, or show up at cleanup site of your choice at  9 a.m. Emerson starts at 8 a.m. Most sites offer refreshments.  We supply all cleanup supplies, as well as a free t-shirt for all volunteers.

Electronics Recycling available at Bartow County Recycle Center, 39 Allatoona Dam Road, Cartersville, GA 30120.

Safety is of primary importance.  Wear sturdy, closed toe shoes and dress in layers.  We provide latex gloves, but you may want to bring your own, sturdy gloves.  Wear bug spray and sunscreen.  If you are allergic to bee stings, make sure you bring appropriate medical supplies with you, and exercise caution.  Work with a team, don't go it alone.  To learn more, watch our Safety PowerPoint.

For individual cleanups contact the volunteer coordinators for those events in the column to the right.

For any other info: Call Keep Bartow Beautiful at 770 387 5167.
