NEWS

EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2008, RESIDENTIAL AND GENERAL CONTRACTORS MUST BE LICENSED.  IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT THE STATE LICENSING BOARD AT 478-207-2440 OR VISIT www.sos.ga.gov/plb/contractors.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR RESIDENTIAL-BASIC AND RESIDENTIAL-LIGHT COMMERCIAL CONTRACTORS:

********Please be aware the Board Rule 553-12-.02 (Continuing Education-Residential, Amended) was recently adopted by the Residential Contractor Division of the State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors.  It will become effective on May 10, 2011.  You may access the amended rule in its entirety at http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/contractors/Notice%20and%20S&D%20553-12-.02%20March.pdf   The language below is an excerpt from the amended rule:

(a)  For the 2012 renewal, an applicant for renewal of his or her residential license must have completed 3 hours of acceptable continuing education for a Residential Basic license and 6 hours of continuing education for a Residential Light Commercial license.  For the 2014 renewal and thereafter, an applicant for renewal of his or her residential license must have completed 3 hours acceptable continuing education each year for a Residential Basic license and 6 hours of continuing education each year for a Residential Light Commercial license, with a year being July 1st through June 30th.

This means you have until June 30, 2012 to complete your required hours.  Please note that the requirement for the 2014 renewal and subsequent renewals will require 3 or 6 hours, depending on your license type, during each year of the two year licensing period.

Also, please familiarize yourself with Board Rule 553-12-.03 which you may access at http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/contractors/Notice%20and%20S&D%20553-12-.02%20August.pdf  .  This rule is already effective and outlines the subject matter areas the Residential Contractor Division deems acceptable.  Please note that the Division will not pre-approve courses for CE providers or licensees if such courses fall within the subject matter areas identified in the rule.

Finally, please familiarize yourself with Board Rule 553-12-0.4 which you may access at http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/contractors/553-12-.04%20Nov%202010.pdf.  This rule is currently in effect and outlines requirements for reporting completion of continuing education courses.  You will receive notice if you are selected for CE audit or if the Division requests proof of course completion.  Please maintain records of courses completed so that you may comply with such audits or request.
