GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE ON LINE SERVICES (ONLINE TAG RENEWAL)

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Bartow County is on the 12-month staggered registration system. Vehicle tags are sold at the Frank Moore Administration and Judicial Building Monday thru Friday, 8:00am –5:00pm.

Georgia law requires that each motor vehicle be registered annually in the county of your legal residence. Newly acquired vehicles or vehicles coming in from another state must be registered within 30 days. After this initial registration, the registration must be renewed by the owner’s BIRTHDAY, NOT THE END OF THE MONTH. Vehicles are required to be registered in the name(s) that appear on the certificate of title. For recently purchased vehicles, the title must be in your name prior to registration, or you must apply for a title at the time of registration.

ANNUAL TAG RENEWAL NOTICE

Between 30-60 days prior to your birthday (expiration date), a tag renewal notice will be mailed to you listing the tag fees and ad valorem taxes due on your vehicle. If you choose to renew by mail, once our office receives your bill and payment, your decal will be mailed to you. To avoid penalties when renewing by mail, the renewal must be postmarked by the birthday.

INDIVIDUAL OWNERSHIP: You must register during the 30-day period ending on your birthday. Example: Your birthday is September 10- you may renew anytime between August 10 and the close of the tag office on September 10 to avoid penalties.
Late penalties are 10% of the ad valorem tax, plus 25% of the tag fee.

LEASED VEHICLES: You must register during the 30-day period ending on the lessee’s birthday.
If two or more persons own or lease a vehicle, the birthday of the owner or lessee
whose name appears first on the certificate of title or lease agreement will determine the renewal period.

BUSINESS/ENTERPRISE: Business registrations are staggered by month according the first letter of the business name and expire at the end of the month according to the chart below.

INSURANCE

Beginning February 1, 2003, Georgia law requires insurance companies to transmit verification of insurance to the Department Of Motor Vehicle Safety database. It is your insurance companies responsibility to provide the DMVS with the correct vehicle information to match the state database. (House Bill 994)
If your vehicle is covered by a commercial policy, a copy of the insurance card is required for each vehicle at the time it is registered. For a fleet or self insured policy,
the insurance card is required but not for each vehicle.
