Absentee by Mail – Physically Disabled

Any registered voter in the state of Georgia is entitled to cast a ballot in any election that he or she is qualified to vote in through the mail if he or she so chooses.  If you or someone you know is physically disabled, there are special provisions in the law to simplify this process. The process for requesting and casting such a ballot is fairly simple and is laid out below and includes these special provisions.

  1. 1. Download and complete the Absentee Ballot Application from this website.  Please be certain that all sections are completed.  If your application is not completely filled out, we will be unable to issue you a ballot.  If you have any questions about how to complete this application please contact our office at (770) 387-5098 during normal business hours and we will be happy to assist you.
  2. As you complete the application, please notice the box labeled disabled. If you complete this portion of the application we will send you all ballots that the law allows you to receive automatically for the rest of the current election cycle. Using this method you may receive up to four ballots from one Absentee Ballot Application.  However, if it is a Presidential Election Year, the law requires you to complete two applications for Absentee Ballots. One for the Presidential Preference Primary, and another for all the other elections.  As always, please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions.
  3. After you complete the Absentee Ballot Application, but not before 180 days prior to Election Day, either mail it to:

Any applications received sooner than 180 days prior to Election Day are required to be rejected by law.

  1. After we receive the application, we will determine if you are eligible to receive a ballot.  The three qualifications to receive a ballot are that you are registered to vote in Bartow County, that you live within the district in which the election is occurring, and that you have not already been issued a ballot for the current election.
  2. Once we determined your eligibility to receive a ballot, it will be mailed, along with the required forms and materials, to the mailing address that you supplied on your Absentee Ballot Application via the United State Postal Service.  It usually takes between one and two business days to issue a ballot once we have received your application.  However, we cannot estimate how long it will take for the USPS to deliver the ballot to you.
  3. After you receive your ballot package, please carefully review its contents.  It should include:
    1. A blank ballot that contains all political offices that you are eligible to vote on in the current election (for more information on which offices you vote on during any given election please visit our Poll Locator).
    2. A white privacy envelope.
    3. A yellow mailing envelope.
    4. Instructions

If your package does not include these items please contact us prior to sending the ballot in so that we can send you the necessary supplies.

  1. At this point you are ready to vote!  Refer to the instructions which are included with your package for specific directions on marking your ballot.  Once you have completed marking your ballot fold and place it into the white privacy envelope (and remember to seal the envelope).  This envelope is your assurance that the choices you indicated on your ballot will remain private and confidential.  Then, place the white envelope into the yellow envelope to be mailed back to us.  After sealing the yellow envelope, carefully complete the oath located on the back.  IF THIS OATH IS NOT COMPLETED CORRECTLY YOUR BALLOT WILL BE REJECTED!  If you have any questions about this oath PLEASE call us prior to submitting the ballot.
  2. There are three ways to return the completed ballot to the Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office.  The ballot MUST be returned to us by 5:00 PM on Election Day in order for the ballot to be counted.
    1. Place X postage on the yellow envelope and mail it back to us via the United States Postal Service.
    2. Place the yellow envelope inside another envelope and send it to us via a different delivery service such as FedEx, UPS, or DHL.  This may enable the ballot to reach us sooner if you choose an option such as Rush Delivery.
    3. c.    Hand deliver your own ballot to the Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office during normal business hours.  However, if you choose to hand deliver your ballot you CANNOT deliver other people’s ballots at the same time unless they are Physically Disabled
