Operational
History
The
Bartow County Water Department was
originally established in
September 1969 under the leadership of our inaugural Superintendent Mr.
Jerry Rowland, initially providing residential water services to the
suburbs immediately surrounding Cartersville, the capital seat of
Bartow County. System resources during early operating phases consisted
entirely of water purchased from the City of Cartersville that had been
withdrawn directly from the surface of Lake Allatoona. Construction
efforts commenced upon our wastewater system in the early 1970’s near
the Cass-White Road/Interstate-75 Interchange as demand produced from
the establishment of numerous commercial enterprises at that
intersection necessitated wastewater infrastructure implementation. Our
water and wastewater utility systems have expanded rapidly during the
past several decades as a result of steady population growth along with
incremental residential, commercial and industrial development
construction rates that have occurred across Bartow County. Presently,
our department services over 20,000 locations through a vast network of
approximately 810 miles of water lines, 145 miles of sewer lines, 43
water and sewer pumping/booster stations, 14 water reservoirs and 2
wastewater treatment plants with an average consumption rate of 6.5
M.G.D. (Million Gallons per Day).
